About Tina

Tina is a musician, music educator and creative experience facilitator who is passionate about developing experiences that inspire people.  She believes that people need the opportunity to actively participate in an experience in order to be inspired to create change – whether it be musically, personally or as a community.

From performing as a xylophone soloist with the Queensland Pops Orchestra to developing music therapy programs for students with special needs and elder adults; teaching percussion to beginners to delivering lectures on percussion skills to tertiary students, Tina has dedicated the last 12 years to sharing her energetic spirit through the creative experiences that she provides to make a difference in someone’s lives.

These experiences shaped Tina to be a versatile creative experience facilitator who is capable of working with a variety of populations from 3 years old to 103.  It has also confirmed Tina’s belief that music transcends culture, age, gender and occupation, and that anyone, irrespective of musical background or abilities can become empowered through positive musical interactions.

Tina is an experienced group facilitator who has used rhythm-based interventions and activities for many years to unite and empower people.  This included supporting women who have suffered abuse to express their feelings and emotions, helping children with autism find a voice of their own, and showing participants how to listen to each other more effectively and work as a team.  A graduate with honours from the University Of Queensland with specialisations in music education and music therapy, Tina has also pursued further drum circle facilitation studies with Arthur Hull.

Tina is an active percussion educator with more than 12 years teaching experience spanning across primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Currently the Director of Percussion at All Hallows’ School, Tina is continuing to share her creative spirit with the wider community through RHYTHMWORX.

Here’s what some people have to say about Tina:

“Dear Tina, I just wanted you to know how much I and others have always enjoyed being a member of the audience whenever the Percussion Ensembles and you have performed over the years. Your talent, your passion and your enthusiasm for music and life has always impressed - you are a lovely role model for the girls." Julia Maloney

“Tina is the most amazing teacher I have ever personally had. Every lesson she challenges me with something new and pushes me so I can reach my full potential. Her teaching style is very unique as she actually cares about her students and takes the time to greet and get to know everyone which makes the girls feel welcomed.  Every other drum teacher I have had has only cared about reading rhythms and strictly teacher for half an hour whereas Tina gets to know every student as an individual. Tina’s determination and outlook on life is amazing and I look up to her for this.  Tina is one of the most unique and interesting people I know and her style of teaching has kept me loving and wanting to learn percussion and determined me to keep learning in the future.” Sophia De Marco

“Dear Tina, congratulations on an excellent and truly standout performance – it was great to see the girls having so much fun.  Every one of us in the audience felt it, and their enthusiasm was infectious.  Not only that, but I think that you have single-handedly made percussion just about the coolest thing you can do!” Andrea C

"Tina engages with her students and audience like no other teacher I have seen ever has. Her energy is contagious." Lisa P

“[Tina] is the best music teacher I have had so far because she has a unique way of teaching students, as she is able to level with them in a personal, encouraging manner which I find motivating. In an ensemble situation, [Tina} provides this kind of teaching method on a larger scale, whilst still encouraging the ensemble to learn and understand the music. [Tina's] style of teaching is definitely better than the other teachers I have had because she is not intimidating or scary in any way. My previous teachers caused a sense of fear, as they never encouraged practice or success, instead, pushed the extremes of worthlessness if a practice was missed in an afternoon or a piece was taking a little longer to learn. I find [Tina's] method of encouragement better because I can practice to my full potential out of willingness to play percussion instead of fear. I would describe [Tina] as: supportive, inspiring and fun because she encourages the best of her students, inspires us all with her amazing musical skills and still makes learning percussion so much fun.” Aimee M

“Thank you so much for teaching me throughout these 3 years … I’ve had SoSoSo much fun! I’m so proud of myself to have such a great, talented teacher such as you.” Joyce C

“It has been really fabulous learning from such a great teacher like you.  You are one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met – you impress me every time." Yu Jin K

“Dear Tina, I wanted to thank you for being so inspirational and enthusiastic.  The change this year in the percussion ensemble since you have arrived is unbelievable.” Liz M
